The Perdix dive computer from Shearwater Research in B.C., Canada, is a complete technical diving computer. It comes with the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm, with user-configurable Gradient Factors, so that you can control your dive computer decompression calculations according to your needs. An optional Varying Permeability Model (VPM-B and VPM-B/GFS) PIN upgrade is also available for those who like having options.
The Perdix comes with open-circuit and closed-circuit modes for Air, Nitrox, and Trimix mixed gas diving functionality. The standard firmware supports multiple languages and imperial and metric systems—download firmware updates for enhanced navigation features for the three-axis digital compass.
The original Shearwater Perdix, without the Air Integrated (AI) designation on this page, is priced lower than the Perdix AI. The Shearwater Perdix AI model has the radio frequency receiver built into the electronics, therefore the price difference. The regular Perdix can NOT be upgraded later to allow air pressure transmitters.
These unique technical diving computers offer an information screen using a large full-color LED LCD. In cave mode, the display will automatically adjust the brightness intensity based on the surrounding environment illumination to make the screen easy to read on the surface in sunlight, open water, or a cave.
Perdix Dive Computer
As far as decompression diving, the Shearwater Perdix provides complete information displays with up to 5 different mixes. The Perdix provides time-to-surface (TTS) based on the planned gas switches. It also supports multiple gas definition presets with combinations of O2, Nx, and Helium. Shearwater Dive Computers will NOT “lockout” after a missed stop or ascent violation. The built-in CCR mode for rebreathers grants the ability to perform constant PO2 set point calculations for deco. After the dive, the Perdix communicates via Bluetooth with your iPad and iPhone. Also, Shearwater supports Mac and PC desktop applications. You can also download dives using your iOS devices in conjunction with third-party applications.
Shearwater Research designed the Perdix to work with a single AA alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable battery. Every Perdix includes two elastic straps with buckles, flexible tubing for wrist mount. A zippered hard case, dual o-ring seal battery door with gold contact, and battery already installed (ready to dive out of of the box), two spare O-rings for the battery lid, USB Bluetooth transmitter, Quick Start Guide with instructions for downloading the user manual and desktop software from the Shearwater website. The Shearwater Perdix dive computer also includes a screen protector previously installed to prevent scratches on the display face. The software supports log downloads and firmware updates via the Bluetooth wireless interface of the Perdix and is compatible with MS Windows and MAC OS X.
Initially, the Perdix shipped in a cardboard box, but today, Shearwater Research supplies the Perdix with a convenient zippered case for travel and suitable for dry storage, but not for boat use or damp storage.
