It is part of the Sac Aktun system, meaning “White Cave” in Maya, is the second longest cave system in the world, with over 210km of mapped and surveyed passages and with over 130 interconnected cenotes. It is easily accesible and on the highway to Coba, 4 kms out of Tulum.
Gran Cenote is very popular for snorkelers and divers alike, perfect for the whole family. The Cenote water temperature is a perfect 24 degrees Celsius / 75 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and 25 degrees Celsius / 77 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. Perfect for cooling off from the Caribbean sun!

For cavern divers, you follow along the edge of the impressively large circular shaped Cenote, with a maximum depth of 10 meters / 33 feet. The contrast between the darkness and penetrating natural light creates stunning effects and the view of the entrance from inside the cavern area is remarkable. It’s like being in a marble palace!
