Cave Diving Course in Playa del Carmen: TDI Cavern to Full Cave Program

Discover the secrets the world holds UnderGround.

Follow the line beyond the light.

The TDI (Technical Diving International) Cavern to Full Cave Program at Divers UnderGround is a structured cave-diving course in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, designed for qualified divers who want to progress from cavern-diving procedures to full-cave navigation through a single, comprehensive training pathway.

This program combines TDI Cavern Diver, TDI Intro to Cave Diver, and TDI Full Cave Diver into a progressive 8-day minimum course in the cenotes of the Riviera Maya. You will begin inside cavern limits, build awareness and control in the daylight zone, then progress beyond the natural light area using a continuous guideline, and finish with the planning, navigation, line work, gas management, and team procedures required for full cave diving.

Training focuses on real-world cave procedures, buoyancy and trim, propulsion, communication, emergency response, gas planning, and disciplined decision-making in overhead environments.

TDI standards allow these three courses to be taught consecutively as part of a single progression. For divers entering the full pathway without prior Cavern or Intro to Cave certification, the complete program includes at least 16 training/cave dives.

We also take care of the details that may not appear in the course program, but are still part of the experience.

The morning coffee before we begin, a good chocolate after the dives, a small celebration when you graduate, and a small token to remember this important step into the world of overhead diving.

Many of these details become more meaningful when we spend time with our students and listen to what they experienced during the course. Their stories remind us that training goes far beyond technique, standards, and procedures; it is also built through trust, listening, support, and those small moments that make the process memorable.

At Divers UnderGround, we make an effort to understand what you need, adapt the experience to your process, and keep improving every detail so your training is demanding, safe, and also fun.

What you will learn

During the TDI Cavern Diver to Full Cave Program, you will build and refine the techniques required across all three levels of training. The goal is to understand why each procedure matters and how to apply it in an overhead environment.

– Core cave-diving control: You will work on buoyancy, trim, propulsion, awareness, positioning, and team control inside the cave environment.

– Guideline and line procedures: You will practice awareness of guidelines, reels, spools, jumps, gaps, markers, and line protocols appropriate to each level of training.

– Gas management and planning: Disciplined gas management, team awareness, turn pressures, contingency planning, and decision-making.

– Communication and team procedures: Light communication, hand signals, touch-contact communication, team positioning, pre-dive checks, and procedures.

– Emergency response and problem-solving: Realistic procedures for common cave-diving problems, including reduced visibility, lost line, lost diver, light failures, gas-sharing, and team-based exits.

– Full cave navigation: Advanced navigation, including cave dive planning, route awareness, jumps, gaps, circuits, traverses.

This program has a minimum duration of 8 days, but the training adapts to your pace. If you need more time to consolidate skills, build confidence, or consistently reach the required level, we can extend the process.

Your progression will depend on your performance, control, comfort, and decision-making throughout the course. Our goal is not only to complete the minimum required days, but also to help you develop the skills, safe habits, and discipline needed to dive in caves with greater confidence and safety.

Each dive is a step forward in your progress. You adjust your equipment, perfect your buoyancy and trim, manage tasks under pressure, and cultivate the habits that separate a competent cave diver. The aim is not just to finish a course, but to lay the groundwork for safe, skilled cave diving. For those seeking the full TDI path with discipline and confidence, this is the starting point.
