Cave Diving Instructor

Juan Camilo García grew up in the beautiful city of Medellin, Colombia. After studying Business Administration he moved to Canada where he opened a successful business with his brother. In 2005, he came to Playa del Carmen on vacation and completed his Open Water Referral, already knowing that this would be the start to something new and great! He fell in love with the water. After a few short months back in Canada he sold his house, packed and moved to Mexico.

He became a PADI Open Water Diving Instructor in March 2008 and hasn’t looked back since. Soon after, he became a Cave Diver and started learning about Technical Deep Diving with accelerated decompression and mixed gases.

After a few years of cave diving in the Yucatan peninsula and more specifically along the coast of the Riviera Maya, Camilo also had the opportunity to learn and gain experience in technical deep diving in many of the walls found along the coast of the Caribbean sea of Mexico. Mixing the best of both worlds, and guided by his curiosity, he has been exploring the Yucatán state and cave diving in many of the deep caves, typical of the local Cenotes around the city of Merida. Most of the Cenotes are in and around the Chicxulub crater and Camilo has been driving thru hundreds of little towns looking for Cenotes to dive in. He constantly dives in Yucatán’s amazing deep caves using Trimix and Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPV).

In 2010, Camilo went on a month long trip to Utila where he assisted an Instructor Development Course of close to 40 instructor candidates and got his IDC Staff Instructor level. After the IDC he dedicated his time to becoming a PADI Tec Deep and Tec Trimix Instructor as well as getting his PADI Sidemount Instructor rating.

A few years of these and he finally had the experience he needed to start the path towards becoming a Cave Diving Instructor.  In 2012 Camilo got his first TDI Overhead Diving Instructor rating as a TDI Cavern Diving Instructor. and in 2014 he had fulfilled the requisites to become a TDI Full Cave Diver Instructor. Recently in 2016, he became part of the Razor Sidemount Diving Instructor team. Camilo has 4,000+ dives under his belt and 12 years of experience. Camilo loves Cave exploration and was part of the resurvey team for Caracol cave system set up by Mr. Bil Phillips which was then connected to the Sac Actun system by cave explorer Robbie Schmitner. As well he has laid a few kilometers of Cave Line in various virgin Caves.
